Sudama was a poor brahmin who lived in a small village with his wife and children. He had been friends with Lord Krishna since childhood, but as he grew older, Sudama became too embarrassed to approach Krishna for help. One day, his wife convinced him to seek out his old friend for aid, and so Sudama set out on a journey to see Krishna.
As Sudama walked, he wondered what he could offer to his wealthy friend. He had nothing of value to give, but he remembered the days when they were young and used to share their meals. So Sudama picked up a handful of flattened rice, which was all he could afford, and continued on his journey.
When Sudama arrived at Krishna’s palace, he was awestruck by its grandeur. He felt unworthy of entering, but he was welcomed with open arms by his old friend. Krishna greeted Sudama warmly and took him to his private chambers.
Sudama was surprised to see that Krishna was living a simple life despite his immense wealth. He was also struck by how kind and humble Krishna was, despite his status as a king. Sudama presented the flattened rice to Krishna, who happily accepted it and ate it with great pleasure.
Krishna and Sudama spent the whole day catching up on old times, and Sudama shared his struggles and sorrows with his friend. Krishna listened intently and comforted him, assuring Sudama that everything would be alright.
As Sudama prepared to leave, Krishna gave him many gifts of great value. But Sudama did not care about the gifts; he was grateful for the time he had spent with his old friend. He left the palace feeling humbled and blessed, knowing that he had a true friend in Krishna.
From that day on, Sudama lived a contented life, and he never forgot the kindness that Krishna had shown him. He knew that true wealth lay not in material possessions, but in the love and friendship that he shared with those around him.
